Army of the Cumberland in the Chattanooga region, 28 Nov 1863-30 Apr 1864

HQ banner, Army of the Cumberland

After posting “Federal Military Occupation of Chattanooga and vicinity”, I realized that did not account for the commands of the Army of the Cumberland which occupied the Chattanooga region prior to the beginning of the Atlanta Campaign on 1 May 1864.
These commands, while present, were not officially assigned as part of that occupation.

Part of the reason for my fascination was to learn which commands were in bivouacked the East Brainerd-Graysville area where I crew up.

All of the following information is taken from the Official Records of the War of the Rebellion (OR), particularly from the itinerary of the Army of the Cumberland at the beginning of the OR, Section 1, Volume 32, Part 1.
